Beshear Releases Tax Returns

State Attorney General Andy Beshear released his tax returns, and asks Governor Matt Bevin to follow his lead. Beshear spoke at Fancy Farm Picnic over the weekend, where copies of his tax returns were handed out to the crowd. Beshear is gearing up for a possible run for governor in 2018. 

 

 

New Restaurant in Whitesburg

Whitesburg newest restaurant opened on Friday (August 4). The 5th District uses primarily locally grown produce, and will even deliver meals in the Whitesburg area. 

 

 

Kentucky State Trooper Injured in Car Accident in Estill County

A Kentucky State Trooper was injured in an accident in Estill County late Saturday morning (August 5). The accident happened on Highway 52, west of Irvine, when he collided with a SUV. The Trooper was trapped in his cruiser and had to be cut out of the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries and was released later in the day. The driver of the SUV that collided with the trooper was also treated and released. 

 

 

Successful First Pikeville Comic-Con

More than a thousand people went to Pikeville over the weekend for the Pikeville Comic-Con. This was the first time the community hosted a conference for comic and fantasy enthusiasts, with dozens of local shops taking part as vendors, which promoted local business. Organizers say they were encouraged by the turnout, and are already planning for next year’s event. 

 

 

Kentucky Power Reevaluate Percent Rate Increase

Negative customer response prompted Kentucky Power to downsize the rate increase they are requesting. Kentucky Power originally asked the Public Commission to approve a 17-percent rate increase. After a letter-writing campaign of customers and debt refinancing, the company says it will change its request to a 15-percent rate increase. The commission will decide in January whether to approve the rate hike.
