Letcher County is yet another step closer to getting a new airport. The Mountain Eagle reports the Federal budget passed last month includes money to go toward the design. There are also grants that need to be approved by the FAA but officials are currently on track to receive money in 2025 and start construction in 2026. The paper reports the airport will be located between Stampers Branch and Daniels Branch with the board already acquiring about 700 acres for the runway, hangars and terminal and maybe room for some businesses and housing.
