Work Begins Soon in Letcher County on Emergency Waterway Flood Debris Cleanup

Work will be starting soon to clear debris from some Letcher County waterways that have been clogged since the February 14 flood.

The Mountain Eagle reports the Letcher County Fiscal Court will use DRC Emergency Service of Galveston, which has a master contract with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, to manage local contractors that will fish out the debris and haul it away.

This round, however, is only for what is considered emergency work under and around bridges or anywhere that is a “threat to life, public health, safety, or significant property damage”.

FEMA and the state will pay for most of it but the county will reportedly have to pay 13 percent.
