The University of Pikeville has reportedly gotten a nearly $600,000 grant to take part in a program with the U.S. National Science Foundation to look into how to grow food without soil.
UPike says the program called “Driving AgTech Research and Education in Kentucky” puts them in collaboration with KSU, Bluegrass Community and Technical College, Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation and Foodchain Inc to study nutrient management, food safety, and sustainability with aquaponics and more.
The grant includes student research stipends as well as equipment and supplies.
