UPike Plans To Open Preventive Care Center in Prestonsburg

The University of Pikeville is making plans to open a center for preventive medicine.

UPike says they recently received $2 million from the Appalachian Regional
Commission from a package designed to support economic diversification and
revitalization in communities impacted by the decline of the coal industry.

The money will go toward renovating a 25,000-square-foot building in Prestonsburg that was
donated to UPike to create what they call the Appalachian Center for Preventive
Medicine with doctors, nurses, dentists, optometrists and social workers to serve folks in
Floyd, Pike, and other counties.

The clinic is scheduled to open sometime in 2025.
