Some Federal Flood Recovery Money May Not Be Available to Letcher County

Some federal flood recovery money for Letcher County may not come through because the state legislature has not provided help with money for matching funds to get it. The Mountain Eagle reports with the General Assembly session ending without adding to the East Kentucky SAFE Fund, Letcher County may have to turn down FEMA money that requires the counties to also pay a share. Judge Executive Terry Adams says he plans to keep talking with state legislators. Meanwhile Letcher County is starting to see some FEMA reimbursements for damage repairs. Officials say about $20 million is coming in over the next few weeks to pay back loans the county had to take to fix infrastructure.
