Sewer rates could be going up in Pikeville. Last week the City Commission held a first reading of an ordinance to increase rates for sewer services.
The Appalachian News Express reports the move followed a comprehensive study of the rates, particularly looking at the difference between customers within city limits and those outside.
They say sewer systems in the city mostly rely on gravity flow to the wastewater treatment
plant while those outside the city need additional pumping, which costs more.
A second reading and final approval of the ordinance will be held October 14.
They are not raising water rates although they are raising the water service deposit by $25
