Pikeville Fire Department Station Three is now testing a newly installed Safe Haven Baby Box.
The Appalachian Pregnancy Care Center and the City of Pikeville have partnered with others on the way for struggling parents to leave a baby and relinquish parental rights without facing charges.
The Appalachian News Express reports it’s a climate-controlled, padded, door in the wall that will alert emergency responders when a baby is placed inside.
It is not open for use yet – it’s still being tested.
