Pikeville city officials have applied for a state program with hopes of getting money to update the water and wastewater treatment systems.
This year the General Assembly created a grant program called the Kentucky Water and Wastewater Assistance for Troubled or Economically Restrained Systems.
Pikeville Assistant City Manager Brad Slone tells the Appalachian News Express since Pikeville’s median household income falls below the state average, it is eligible to apply for the money.
Slone says the city has submitted grants to modernize the water treatment plant and to fix some problems at the wastewater treatment facility for a total of about $10 million.
The General Assembly will announce the recipients in April 2025.
Slone says in case they don’t get it, they are applying for other grants as well.
