North Laurel Wins, Knott Central Loses in Opening Round of Girls Sweet 16

The KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 State Tournament got underway at Rupp Arena yesterday.

13th Region champion took on 16th Region champion Ashland Blazier in the opening game and the Lady Jaquars came up with the win 51-42.

The 14th Region champion Knott County Central Lady Patriots played in game two in the early afternoon and lost to 5th Region champion, Taylor County 53-35.

The Knott Central Lady Patriots end the season as 53rd District and 14th Region champions with a 24-8 record.

Also last night, George Rogers Clark won over Franklin-Simpson 64-42 and Frederick Douglass beat Simon Kenton 48-39.

With their Wednesday win, North Laurel will face George Rogers Clark in the quarterfinals on Friday at 11:00am.

15th Region champion, Johnson Central, will play four time defending state champion Sacred Heart in the opening round this morning at 11:00am.

Also today in the girls sweet 16 Mercy Academy takes on Cooper, Harrison County faces Marshall County and Danville Christian will play Daviess County.
