Letcher County Sheriff Billy Jones says the department has recently been able to make some upgrades to their gear thanks to some savvy shopping as well as some community donations.
Jones says the January snow made them realize they had to trade up their regular patrol cars for all-wheel drive vehicles as they sometimes deliver food and prescriptions in bad weather and it was too dicey in the cars.
He says their firearms were getting old and starting to malfunction so they were able to buy new ones and sell the old ones to make most of the money back.
They also received a donation of four police body cams from KRCC and The HUB donated several boxes of Narcan.
