Letcher County Sanitation Workers Discuss Need For Hazardous Pay

The Letcher County Fiscal Court is reportedly holding a special meeting next week to discuss the dangers faced by county Sanitation Department workers after the workers told the Court they want hazard pay.

The Mountain Eagle reports at the last Fiscal Court meeting some workers used the public comment section to explain how they deal with used needles, human and animal waste, and many other hazardous materials.

The County Attorney suggested the workers report such items to the Litter Warden but one
worker said short of an arrest most people would likely disregard the Warden.

The paper reports the county sanitation workers currently make $10.11 an hour.
