Letcher County Lady Cougars Softball Wins First 14th Region Championship Since 2011

For the first time since 2011, the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars are 14th Region Softball Champions!!  

The Lady Cougars beat Estill County 3-1 in the championship game Saturday afternoon at Perry Central.  

Alyssa Nicely, pitched her third straight complete game in the region tournament, allowing two hits and one run over seven innings, striking out ten while walking none.

Alyssa Nicely was named the 2024 14th Region Tournament MVP.  With a 3-0 record and 32 strikeouts over 3 games. 

The Lady Cougars offense had 11 hits in the game. Emma Pavlik, Kara Holcomb, Kelsey Bentley, and Scarlett Stamper had 2 hits each.

Nicely, Holcomb, and Stamper each had one RBI. 

The 14th Region Lady Cougars will now advance to the KHSAA softball state  tournament where they will take on 13th Region champion North Laurel this Thursday night at 8:30pm eastern at John Cropp Stadium at UK.

Pregame begins at 8:00pm.

We will also have a special LCC softball send off to state broadcast live from Lady Cougar field here on the Bulldog Tuesday evening at 7:00pm as we celebrate the season and get ready for the state tournament.  

Lawrence County is the 15th Region softball champion and they will Friday in the last game of the opening round at 8:30pm against McCracken County.
