A Celebration of Life will be held Monday for Double Kwik / Childers Oil founder Don
Childers who passed away last week at the age of 92.
Don was born in Pikeville and after serving in the US Army became a sales representative for Gulf Oil in Whitesburg in 1956.
In 1966 he bought Gulf’s Whitesburg-based business and started Childers Oil
which he and his wife of 71 years, Peggy, grew into more than 40 convenience stores
as well as a restaurant, tire store and other businesses.
He also served on many boards and commissions in support of Letcher County.
The Celebration of Life is Monday at 1pm at First Baptist Church of Whitesburg.
