Letcher County Central Lady Cougars Set for KHSAA Girls’ Sweet 16 State Tournament Matchup Thursday

The KHSAA girls basketball Sweet 16 State Tournament gets underway today at Rupp Arena.  

The only mountain team playing today is 15th Region champion, the Pikeville Lady Panthers.

Pikeville will face Notre Dame High School out of Northern Kentucky this evening at 6:00pm in the state tournament.  

The other three games today will be Henderson County taking on Frederick Douglass at 11:00am this morning, followed by Calloway County against Assumption at 1:30pm this afternoon.

After the Pikeville game tonight, it will be West Jessamine facing Taylor County at 8:30pm.

Tomorrow, Thursday, the 14th Region champion, the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars will take on Region 3 champion Owensboro Catholic in the Girls Sweet 16 at 6:00pm.

Pregame will begin just after the 5:00pm news with tip off from Rupp Arena Thursday at 6:00pm.

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars Basketball Team will leave for the state tournament today with a fire truck escort leaving the school beginning at 12:00 PM. 

The escort is part of a community send-off to celebrate the team’s accomplishment and wish them well in the tournament.

The community is invited to step outside, line the streets, and wave the team out of town as they head out to represent Letcher County at the state tournament.

North Laurel, the girls 13th Region champion will take on #1 George Rogers Clark just after the LCC game on Thursday night at 8:30pm.
