LCC Girls Season Ends; Owsley County Wins First Ever 14th Region Title

The 2023-24 season came to an end Friday night for the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars as they lost to Estill County 52-40 in the girls 14th Region Tournament semifinals.

The Lady Cougars finish a great season as 53rd District champions and  a record of 21-10.

In the girls 14th Region Tournament championship game Saturday night at Estill County, Owsley County won over Estill County 51-46.

Owsley County came from behind to win their first ever 14th Region championship and they will advance to the girls Sweet 16 State Tournament at Rupp Arena later this week. 

The Pikeville Lady Panthers won the 15th Region title beating Johnson Central 70-41.  The Pikeville girls are making their 5th sweet 16 appearance in the last 6 years.

The North Laurel Lady Jaquars won the 13th Region Championship beating Corbin 61-49.

The girls sweet 16 state tournament begins this Wednesday at Rupp Arena. 

14th Region winner Owsley County will face Region 4 winner Bowling Green to open the tournament this Wednesday at 11:00am.

The other mountain teams….15th Region champion Pikeville will take on Region 5 winner Bethlehem at 11:00am Thursday.

13th Region winner North Laurel will face Franklin County out of Region 11 at 8:30pm Wednesday.  

The girls KHSAA Sweet 16 State Tournament will be this week, March 13-16 and the boys KHSAA Sweet 16 State Tournament will be next week, March 20-23 and both will be played at Rupp
