Hundreds are still without power from the impacts of Hurricane Helene.
Kentucky Power said early this morning that in the 48 hours since the storm, power has been restored to more than 80% percent of customers and the remaining outages contain small clusters of customers.
But many are in rural areas that are not truck accessible and require more manual work. T
hey say there are more than 1,000 line personnel, business partners, contractors and crews from out-of-state assisting with restoration across the state.
As of this morning they had found about 100 broken poles and 567 spans of wire down.
Several schools are closed today including Letcher County and Jenkins Independent
Schools due to power outages and damaged roads affecting many families in the area.
