Following a rash of recent alleged threats and rumors of threats to schools and colleges, including in Letcher and Perry Counties, Kentucky State Police and the Department of Education have issued a statement.
They say while they are concerned about the amount of time students are missing due to these hoaxes, the primary concern is the safety and well-being of students and staff and they will always take threats seriously.
But they also ask families to talk with kids about the consequences of calling in a threat against another student or their school or posting it on social media.
They say a threat like this can result in a student getting suspended, expelled or put into an alternative school, plus it’s a felony which could mean up to 10 years in prison.
