Kentucky Baseball Off Season Notes

Following the historic 2024 Kentucky baseball season that saw the Cats  make their first trip to Omaha to compete in the Men’s College World Series, a couple of Cats have been taken in this year’s Major League Baseball draft.

Outfielder Ryan Waldschmidt was selected 31 overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Waldschmidt is the third first rounder of the Nick Mingione era.

Emilien Pitre was drafted 58th overall to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Kentucky baseball has had 36 players drafted in the coach Nick Mingione era.

Kentucky baseball has hired Wright State Associate Head Coach and Hitting Coach Chase Slone as a new assistant coach.

Under Slone, Wright State’s offense was 10th in scoring in Division I in 2024 at nine runs per game.

It also ranked eighth in slugging percentage and home runs per game, 16th in batting average, and 17th in total runs scored as Wright State won yet another Horizon League championship.
