Cavalier Nation showed up and the Jenkins Cavaliers scored their biggest win in many years as they clawed from 17 down to come back and knock off the Knott County Central Patriots 56-54 to win the boys 53rd District Tournament championship game Friday night at Letcher County Central High School.
Jenkins Junior Kale Owens put in a 3 pointer that bounced high off the rim before sinking through the net with 5.4 seconds to go in the game that proved to be the winning shot.
Jenkins Sophomore Cam Hayes was named our 103.9 The Bulldog Papa John’s of Whitesburg Player of Game.
He had 21 points to lead the Cavaliers
The 25-4 Cavaliers win their first district title since 1995 and make their first 14th Region Tournament appearance since the 2005 season.
Both Jenkins and Knott County Central will advance to the 14th Region Tournament that will be held at the Morton Combs Athletic Complex at Knott County Central High School starting this Wednesday March 5th.
