Jenkins Cavalier Boys Advance to District Championship with Win Over Letcher County Central

The 53rd District Tournament rolled on last night at Letcher County Central High School.

It was the boy’s district semifinals last night.

In game one, Knott County Central won over Cordia 71-27.

The game one Papa John’s of Whitesburg Player of the Game was Knott County Central’s Junior Talan Osborne.

In game two, it was the most anticipated game of the district tournament so far as cross county rivals, the Jenkins Cavaliers and Letcher County Central Cougars hooked up for the third time this season.   Jenkins had won the first two games during the regular season.

It was an emotionally charged atmosphere at LCC and as expected the game was a classic as both teams went back and forth most of the game.

Jenkins led by 2 at halftime,  LCC took the lead by 5 in the 3rd Quarter, but Jenkins hit some big 3’s and made free throws down the stretch to get the 68-54 win over Letcher County Central.

Our Bulldog Papa John’s Player of the Game was Jenkins Senior Gavin Gibson.

The Letcher Central Cougars season comes to an end with a 13-15 record

under first year coach Trevor Noble.

Jenkins is now 24-5 and advances to the district championship game to face Knott County Central Friday night at 7:00pm at LCC.

Jenkins will also advance to the 14th Region Tournament field of 8 for the first time in 20 years.  They last advanced to the 14th Region Tournament during the 2004-2005 season under Coach Zak Moore.
