5 of the 6 mountain teams season ended Friday night in round 3 of the KHSAA high school football playoffs.
In the region championship games Friday night:
Class A
Raceland over Hazard 35-0
and Sayre got by Pikeville 21-6
Class 2A
Beechwood beat Martin County 44-7
Somerset over Prestonsburg 23-6
Class 3A
Lexington Catholic over Bell County 21-8and
Belfry beat Russell 35-17
Belfry is the only mountain team moving to the state semi-finals where they will play at Union County this Friday night. Union County is in Morganfield, KY, about a 6-hour trip for Belfry. Good luck to the Pirates.
The biggest upset Friday was for the team that knocked LCC out of the playoffs, the Boyle County Rebels, the #1 team in Kentucy and top 15 ranked in the nation. Boyle County lost to Covington Catholic 31-28. That ends a 32-game win streak and 4 consecutive class 4A state championships for Boyle County.
