Federal officials have helped Jenkins install flood gauge stations along some waterways to help officials and residents keep track of water levels. At this week’s Jenkins City Council meeting, Mayor Todd Depriest said the four stations were installed by the U.S. Geological Survey along Elkhorn Creek and Elkhorn Lake to send water level information into the network monitored by the National Water Information System Web. The Mountain Eagle reports that while it’s not actually an emergency alert system, you can follow the gauges on the NWIS Website and get alerts when the water rises.
