A former Letcher Volunteer Fire Department chief has reportedly been indicted by a grand jury for abuse of public trust for allegedly stealing from the department.
The Mountain Eagle reports Gary Rogers is charged with one count of “Abuse of Public
Trust totaling more than $10,000 but less than $100,000”.
The indictment covers alleged acts between 2017 and 2019 which were the last two of the 20 years he was chief.
While the indictment does not say how much money he was accused of taking, the paper cites sources saying it was around $45,000.
If he is ultimately found guilty, Rogers could be sentenced to between five and 10 years in prison.
