Flood Memorial Ceremony August 28 in Hazard

The date has been set to unveil a memorial in Hazard to lives lost in the July 2022 flood.

A ceremony will be held August 28 at 1pm at Hazard City Hall to officially present the memorial that was designed by Rachel Crawford and spearheaded by her mom Rhonda
with money raised by Perry County Sheriff Joe Engle.

Rachel’s brother Aaron “Mick” Crawford died at the age of 18 in the days after the flood after he got sick while volunteering to do cleanup.

The Crawfords tell the Hazard Herald they want to remember the 45 people lost but also highlight the unity and resilience of Kentuckians.
