Fireworks Safety Information

If you are thinking about doing your own fireworks in the backyard, Hazard’s Fire Chief
is reminding you of some legal requirements.

Chief Robert Keith tells WYMT you need to be at least 18 or supervised by someone over 18 who is not under the influence of alcohol; stay 200 feet away from any homes or buildings; and never try to relight a firework that doesn’t go off.

He says to wait about 20 minutes and soak it in water and then trash it but don’t throw unsoaked duds straight into the trash as they can smolder.
