FEMA Officials Warn of Con Artists Stealing Information

FEMA officials are reminding those affected by the recent flood to watch out for con artists posing as disaster responders.

They say in some cases, thieves try to apply for FEMA assistance using names, addresses and Social Security numbers they have stolen from people affected by the disaster.

If a real FEMA inspector comes to your home and you did not submit a FEMA application, your information may have been used without your knowledge and you should report that.

Meanwhile watch out for fake FEMA officials who may ask you to pay them to fill out an application or find another way to get your banking information, something the inspectors in the field do not do.
