City of Hazard Looks at Waste Disposal Challenges

Hazard is reportedly looking for a new way to manage waste disposal. At their meeting this week the Hazard Utilities Commission and City Manager talked about how the city has a couple of challenges: it costs the city more than it makes to allow residents to dump, and many septic pump companies no longer have their own dump sites so they are using Hazard’s sewer plant. The Hazard Herald reports the current setup is not designed to handle the types and amount of waste coming in so officials are having to spend money on materials and labor to take steps to accommodate it and keep it from causing problems.
