The Fleming-Neon city council has started working toward allowing alcohol sales following a citizens’ vote in favor of it in last month’s city election.
Nearly 80% percent of those who voted said yes to allowing alcohol sales but it has to be official as a city ordinance.
The Mountain Eagle reports last month the Fleming-Neon city council held a special meeting for a first reading of the Alcohol Beverage Control Ordinance.
But when they went to hold the second reading this week, only four of six council members were present and one of them abstained.
The City Attorney said he felt that with three out of six saying yes is still not a majority, it would need another reading and vote.
