The new Safe Haven Baby Box at Hazard Fire Station One has officially been blessed by the city.
The Hazard Herald reports last week the city held a ceremony for the protected installation which allows mothers in distress an anonymous way to safely give up newborns under 30 days old, with the goal of preventing abandonment.
Funding was approved last year by the City Commission but Mayor Happy Mobelili tells the paper it was proposed and pushed through by the city’s collections manager, Rebecca Combs.
