Big Sandy RECC Requests Rate Increase

Rates could be going up for customers of Big Sandy Rural Electric Co-op.

The Kentucky Public Service Commission has scheduled a hearing over Big Sandy’s
request for a $3.4 million rate increase from residential customers in Floyd, Knott, and
several other counties.

Mountain Top News reports if the PSC approves the hike, rates could go up about $21 a month for the average customer. I

t’s been six years since Big Sandy RECC raised rates but they say now they are being squeezed by rising costs, declining population, and the downslide of the coal industry.
