Whitesburg attorney Matt Butler has been appointed by Governor Andy Beshear as the new 47th District Commonwealth’s Attorney representing Letter County.
He replaces Edison Banks who has served for 23 years but submitted a letter of retirement in March that was effective July 1.
The Mountain Eagle reports Butler is the Democratic candidate for the office and will fill the position at least until the November election.
Meanwhile, Bank’s name is also still set to be on the November ballot and he has until
August 13 to withdraw it so the Republican Committee can appoint someone.
