Appalachian Regional Healthcare says all five of their local birthing hospitals have received awards for the behind-the-scenes work they do to manage data in treating expecting mothers who are dealing with substance abuse.
Officials say the Harlan, Hazard, Highlands, Middlesboro and Whitesburg ARH birthing facilities were honored by the Kentucky Perinatal Quality Collaborative as part of their work to identify moms with substance use disorder and connect them to community resources, as well as having the hospital prepared to deal with newborns that could have withdrawal symptoms.
