A Prestonsburg woman has been charged after a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision left one person with life-threatening injuries.
Kentucky State Police say 55-year-old Julia Vanderpool, of Prestonsburg, was arrested Saturday and charged with first-degree assault and DUI.
According to the arrest citation, troopers responded to KY 1428 around 12:45 Saturday afternoon. The pedestrian, identified as Landon Samons, a senior at Floyd Central High School, was flown from the scene to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Police say Vanderpool told investigators she had taken prescribed Neurontin and Xanax earlier in the day. After a field sobriety test, she was taken into custody, transported for a blood draw, and lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center.
