Buckhorn Breaks Ground on New Water Treatment Plant

Buckhorn has broken ground on a water treatment plant.

Officials gathered Friday for the ceremony, including Perry County Judge Executive Scott Alexander and Hazard Mayor Happy Mobelini who told WYMT they started working on creating it as soon as Mobelini was elected although they also called former Buckhorn Mayor Tom Burns instrumental in the process.

And they credit Congressman Hal Rogers for running with the idea and helping to get a federal grant last fall for nearly $11 million.

Mobelini says thanks to that grant they will be able to build the plant without going into debt.
