Governor Andy Beshear says at least ten people are dead after severe flooding across the state.
Three of those deaths occurred in Pike County and another one in Floyd County.
In a Sunday news conference, Beshear said the death toll is expected to rise as the state continues to deal with a severe weather system affecting much of the South this weekend.
He emphasized the emergency phase is expected to last a few more days until floodwaters recede.
Dozens of water rescues were reported and tens of thousands were left without power across the region on Sunday.
Crews rescued several families this weekend from flooding in Pike County in the Lake View subdivision near the Pikeville Commons apartment complex on Sunday afternoon.
Officials closed the bridge leading to Walmart approximately 30 minutes before the flooding.
Letcher County received nearly four inches of rainfall over the last two days, which has left plenty of damage for residents to clean up.
