A deposition made public in a lawsuit against former Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines reportedly includes an admission by Stines that he did not properly train a former deputy who was convicted of sex crimes.
Two women have sued Stines, Eastern Kentucky Correctional Services and former Deputy Ben Fields who pleaded guilty to charges related to coercing the women into having sex in exchange for help with their home incarceration costs.
Fields served six months in jail.
The Mountain Eagle cites a portion of Stines’ deposition for the lawsuit in which he says he handed Fields a department training manual but never actually trained him on the sexual misconduct policy.
The lawsuit is still working its way through the court system.
