City of Pikeville Reports Expensive Month in January Due to Winter Storms

It could cost Pikeville around $140,000 to deal with all the snow and ice from January.

The City Engineer reportedly says the combined total cost of snow removal from three different storms is more than $140,000 when you add up the labor, equipment, fuel and material demands.

The Appalachian News Express reports that snow removal took Pikeville over 750 labor hours, including over 400 overtime and they used 700 tons of road salt and 155 bags of salt for use on sidewalks.

There were also more costs for Public Safety which had a high demand due to car accidents and utility outages.
