Eleven candidates have emerged to run for the 29th District of the Kentucky Senate following the death last week of Republican incumbent Johnnie L. Turner.
Turner passed away from injuries he suffered in an accident at his Harlan home in September.
He had been running unopposed after Democratic challenger David Suhr withdrew from
the race due to his active duty military requirements.
Turner and Suhr both remain onthe bal lot but the 11 new candidates are all running as write-ins with no boxes to check for their names.
Officials are encouraging voters to take the time to write someone in as whoever is elected into the seat will serve a four-year term representing portions of Letcher, Harlan, Knott, Bell and Floyd Counties.
