Letcher County’s State Senator Johnnie L. Turner is hospitalized in critical but stable condition following an accident at his home near Harlan Sunday night.
Kentucky State Police say Turner had to be airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center after, for an as yet unknown reason, he drove his riding lawnmower into the deep end of an empty pool at his home.
Sunshine Volunteer Firefighters, Lifeguard Ambulance and KSP responded and removed Turner from the pool and took him to the helipad to Harlan ARH where he was flown to Tennessee.
Turner is the District 29 State Senator which covers Letcher, Harlan, Knott, Bell and Floyd Counties.
