Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman is reportedly fighting against the City of Hazard’s new restaurant tax.
Hazard has been working toward starting up the tax which was legalized in the state in the 1980’s but only in about 50 cities.
The idea is for the up-to-3% tax to go toward bolstering tourism.
The Hazard Herald reports Hazard had to sue the state to qualify for the tax and that was granted by a Franklin Circuit Judge last spring.
But Coleman says it is an “unlawful tax” and is appealing the Judge’s ruling.
