Environmental Study Renews Interest in Proposed Letcher County Federal Prison

There’s been a major step toward building a new federal prison in Letcher County. On Friday U.S. Representative Hal Rogers announced the Federal Bureau of Prisons can move forward with the proposed development of a Federal Correctional Institution and Federal Prison Camp in Roxana. This is according to the agency’s new Draft Environmental Impact Statement. Rogers says the new medium-security prison and camp will add more than 300 jobs to the region and provide other economic development opportunities. Another public comment period is now open until April 15
