LCC Girls Win District Title, LCC Boys Get Runner Up in OT Championship Games

Last night at the Morton Combs Athletic Complex in Hindman, two epic 53rd District Tournament championship games were played and both went to overtime. 

The LCC Lady Cougars won the girls and Knott County Central won the boys.  

GIRLS

Jaylin Whitt went full length of the floor to score the winning bucket off the glass at the buzzer in overtime to give the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars the title of champions of the 2024 53rd District Tournament!

The final score was LCC 48 Knott County Central 46.  The LCC girls came from 8 points down to force OT at 44 all.  

Whitt had 18 points and was named the tournament MVP and Bulldog Player of the Game.  

Both teams will advance to the 14th Region Tournament that starts Monday at Estill County High School in Irvine.  

BOYS

The Knott County Central boys are your 2024 53rd District champions. 

The Letcher County Central Cougar boys led by 12 at the end of the 3rd quarter but Knott County Central outscored LCC 29-17 in the 4th quarter to tie the championship game at 55 all and force overtime.  

The Cougars got in some serious foul trouble in OT, Knott Central made their free throws down the stretch and won the game 70-67. 

Both teams will advance to the 14th Region Tournament starting next Wednesday at Powell County High School in Stanton.
