According to WYMT, the Letcher Central head football coach Junior Matthews and the LCC football team were recognized Thursday night during the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame ceremony.
The team assisted the people of Eastern Kentucky during the devastating floods of July 2022.
The Ron Butler Award for Character in Adversity was presented to UK linebacker J.J. Weaver and Letcher County Central Coach Junior Matthews.
The Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame also announced Thursday that it will add five names to its roster of inductees.
The group’s class of 2024 will include the late Fred Lee Davis, central Kentucky native Luke Stocker, former Louisville Cardinal Harry Douglas, former Kentucky Wildcat Maurice Douglass, and former Western Kentucky Hilltopper Jack Doyle.
Kentucky is the only state with its own Pro Football Hall of Fame.
