Former Letcher County Deputy Alexis Stambaugh has been named the Pikeville Police Department’s “Officer of the Year”, the first ever woman to receive the honor in the department. The Appalachian News Express reports Stambaugh, who has been with the department for just about 18 months, got the nod based on several factors including the number of arrests made and the number of events she attended. Stambaugh is the first person in her family ever to serve in law enforcement. She continues to add elements to her training and recently became a certified drug recognition expert.
