Federal Agencies Have Bought 37 Flooded Properties

37 flood-ravaged properties have reportedly been bought out so far in Letcher County thanks to federal programs introduced following the July 2022 flood. The Mountain Eagle reports as of this week there were five buyouts from the Natural Resources Conservation Service and 32 from the Kentucky Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The land will be turned over to the county to tear down any buildings and transform the land to green space. Officials say in all about 250 homes will be bought out with their land never to be used again for structures.
