Pikeville City Officials have revealed the plans for the City’s bicentennial celebration this year. At a special kickoff announcement event last week, Pikeville Mayor Jimmy Carter said the bicentennial committee has been putting this all together for nearly a year-and-a-half. The Appalachian News Express reports there are numerous plans including five traveling historical exhibits from the Big Sandy Heritage Center Museum, a 3-day Fur and Ginseng Trading Post Days Longhunters Rendezvous in September with historical reenactments, special events during Hillbilly Days, and the Pikeville 200 Gala which is in December and is the only ticketed event of the year.
