Coach and Harlan County Native Billy Hicks Passes Away

Harlan County native and legendary basketball coach Billy Hicks has passed away. The Scott County Coroner tells WKYT Hicks died Sunday night of natural causes. The winningest basketball coach in Kentucky high school history, Hicks began his career at Evarts High School in 1978 and later moved to Scott County High School where he spent 25 years. In 2019 Hicks became the first coach in history to win 1,000 games and ended with 1,013 wins, including leading Scott County to two state championships. Hicks was 71 years old.
