Joel David “Joey” Ison

Joel David “Joey” Ison, age 58, of Kona, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2024 at the Pikeville Medical Center. 

He is survived by his girlfriend: Yetta Collier; 3 sons: David Ison, Dalton Ison and Raven Ison; 1 daughter: Kelley Jo Caudill; 2 stepdaughters: Melissa Ison and Jackie Ison; 1 granddaughter: Aspen Faith Ruth Ison; 1 brother: James “Jimbo” Ison and 1 nephew: Wyatt Ison.

Visitation will be from 5:00-10:00pm this evening, Sunday, August 25, 2024 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. 

The Letcher Funeral Home of Whitesburg is in charge of the arrangements.

Chester Steven Ross

Chester Steven Ross, age 63, of Ermine, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2024 at his residence. 

He is survived by his wife: Donna Ross; 2 children: Madonna Ross and Chester “C.W.” Ross both of Ermine; 2 sisters: Virginia Kay Ross and Beverly Gibson both of Little Dry Fork and 1 grandchild: Skyler Ross. 

Funeral services for Chester Steven Ross will be held at 11:00am this morning, Sunday, August 25, 2024 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel with Frank Adams officiating.

Bonnie May Cornett Ingram

Bonnie May Cornett Ingram, age 94, of Linefork, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard.

She is survived by 3 sons: David Ingram of Cumberland, Daniel Ingram and Randy Ingram both of Linefork; 1 brother: Arlie Cornett; 2 sisters: Judith Disney and Georgia Brown; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Bonnie May Cornett Ingram will be held at 1:00pm this afternoon, Sunday, August 25, 2024, at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel with Glenn Cornett officiating. 

Burial will follow in the Ingram Cemetery at Linefork.

Bennie Ellis Smith, age 69, of Cumberland, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024, at his residence.  

He is survived by his wife: Sheena Colet Sokolowski Smith; 3 sons: McKinley Smith, Walter Smith and Randy Smith; 1 brother: Willis Smith; 1 sister: Helen Dixon along with eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 27th from 12 noon to 1 pm in the chapel of Cumberland Valley Funeral Home in Cumberland.

Kermit “Chesley” Bates, age 95 of Indianapolis, Indiana formally of Knott County, passed away on Thursday August 22, 2024. 

He is survived by 2 Daughters: Sharlene Ann Hamilton and Joetta Kennedy; 1 Sister: Bernice Farmer; Special Grandchildren: Jessica Stanley, Chris Slone, Jonathan Hamilton and Aaron Furguson; 9 Great-Grandchildren, and 1 Great Great Grandchild. 

Funeral Services for Kermit “Chesley” Bates will be held at 11:00am Sunday August 25, 2024 at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home in Hindman with Curtie Hall officiating. 

Burial will follow at the Laurel Fork Cemetery in Payne Gap.

Nannie Cornett Conley

Nannie Cornett Conley, age 81, of Dwarf, passed away on Thursday August 22, 2024 at the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard.

She is survived by her children: James Edward Conley of Dwarf, Nannette Renee Sturgill of Viper, and Cletis Howard Conley of Viper; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. 

Visitation will be held from 6:00-9:00pm this evening, Sunday August 25, 2024 at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home in Hazard.

Funeral Services for Nannie Cornett Conley will be held at 1:00pm Monday August 26, 2024 at the Consolidated Baptist Church in Hazard with Lowell Parker officiating.  

Burial will follow in the Cornett Family Cemetery at Dwarf.
